Hello. I'm Sergeant Jacob Slaymaker and welcome to the AFN Europe Report.

00:07.941 --> 00:15.448
The U.S Army’s annual Exercise Saber Junction has arrived in Germany and this time around they brought in the tilt rotors.

00:15.448 --> 00:18.485
Helicopter rotor sound

00:18.485 --> 00:25.392
Along with traditional helicopters, MV-22 Ospreys transported paratroopers from the 173rd Airborne Brigade from the Grafenwoehr

00:25.392 --> 00:33.233
training area into Hohenfels training area as part of an air assault. The Ospreys were chosen for their versatility and the marines flying them say

00:33.233 --> 00:37.170
everyone involved in the exercise benefits from them being there.

00:37.170 --> 00:41.841
Anytime we get an opportunity to conduct some inter-service training it makes more effective as a unit in whole.

00:41.841 --> 00:46.946
Here specifically working with the paratroopers they get an opportunity to see our aviation asset capabilities

00:46.946 --> 00:52.886
and we get a uh hands on understanding of what the paratroopers ground tactics area.

00:52.886 --> 00:59.659
In the German city of Rothenburg the U.S and German communities came together to glimpse into the humanitarian side of war.

00:59.659 --> 01:06.433
The Ansbach military community teamed up with German film students for a documentary of the arrival of American troops to Rothenburg

01:06.433 --> 01:10.970
during World War II. The film features German soldiers giving first-hand accounts

01:10.970 --> 01:18.711
about the peace negotiations and how both sides came together to save the town. The documentary was shown at the Rothenburg Wildbad,

01:18.711 --> 01:24.918
the historic building where the negotiations first took place. The films impact was felt across generational lines.

01:24.918 --> 01:29.823
I think it’s really important for like young people like me to know about

01:29.823 --> 01:40.333
the history and what happened to children our age and like…just how our um experiences can impact the world.

01:40.333 --> 01:44.771
It’s a legacy project and it’s intended to go into the future and that way

01:44.771 --> 01:52.345
these people’s words and what happened to them won’t be forgotten and will be transformational. It’s very moving.

01:52.345 --> 01:55.648
That's all for the AFN Europe Report. Thanks for watching.
